Our Story

When our founder Chris Poulos opened our now legendary restaurant over 50 years ago, he had one thing in mind: Serve the highest quality steaks and seafood available anywhere without compromise. This vision and a passion for great food and exceptional service have been the cornerstone of our success. Our establishment was built as a barbecue lodge in 1952 in Highland Village, Fayetteville’s first shopping center. In 1958, with the addition of the open hearth and beautiful copper hood, it became a steak house. By 1960 it again changed hands and became an Italian restaurant. December 13, 1963, Chris Poulos purchased the business and returned it to its “good old American” Steak House status, with one goal in mind, “to give you your money’s worth …without cutting corners or quality.”

Our current owner Greg Kalevas joined Chris’s more than 38 years ago as an apprentice. He was eager to learn, working side by side Chris and his son, Luke. Greg quickly became a partner and eventual owner after Chris’s retirement.

As our owner and chef, Greg works to provide guests exceptional service and a high-quality dining experience, carrying on Chris’s tradition by offering guests the finest in-house, hand-cut Angus and U.S.D.A. Beef, cooked to perfection over hardwood coals in our open hearth. Guests may also enjoy the freshest Atlantic seafood, homemade specialties, and an extensive selection of fine wines. Just one visit to Chris’s Steak House and you’ll see why we’ve had such a tradition of excellence in the Fayetteville community. We can’t wait for you to dine with us!
